Investment objective

The Sub-Fund follows a clearly defined strategy for the placement of assets based on controlling the portfolio's risk from annual volatility. Purchase and sale decisions are based upon quantitative systems over the medium term. The investment of assets is adjusted to the prevailing market conditions and has the objective of not exceeding a mean annual volatility of 2%. This objective does not constitute a guarantee of any sort that the mean annual volatility will never exceed 2%.

Commentary 31/07/2018

Following the June correction, equity markets started climbing again in July while bond markets retreated in the wake of central bank pronouncements. Equity indices benefited from the publication of corporate earnings reports, which were better than expected, leading to a rebound in the cyclical sectors. Joint statements by President Trump and EU chief Jean-Claude Juncker concerning a tariff deal between the United States and the European Union mentioning ‘zero tariffs on industry, except automakers,' and the prospect of easing trade tensions between the United States and China also benefited the equity indices. In contrast, Trump's criticism of the Federal Reserve for tightening monetary policy, and the low rate policy in the euro zone and Japan, impacted sovereign bonds, while corporate and convertible bonds correlated better with the reporting season. Given this market environment, the QuAM methodology maintained a stable bond allocation over the month, making adjustments between sectors and regions. The weight of international aggregate and specialised long-term funds has been reduced in favour of shorter-term themes and inflation-linked funds. The remainder of the allocation was kept steady, with adjustments to US funds, linked mainly to inflationary themes.

(1) The rating grades the funds on a scale from 1 to 7. This rating system is based on the average fluctuations of the net asset value over the past five years. It corresponds to the variation range of the portfolio upwards and downwards. If the net asset value is less than 5 years old, the rating is determined by other regulatory calculation methods. Historical data such as those used to calculate the rating may not be a reliable indication of the future risk profile. The current category is neither a guarantee nor an objective. Category 1 does not signify a risk-free investment.
